Thank you for taking some time to get to know us!
We can only try to understand how difficult this decision must be for you. Please know that we have great respect and admiration for you, and we know that the decisions you are making come from a place of love. We are truly honored that you would consider us as you plan for the future.
We are Pierce and Jorge: a couple who loves to travel and seek adventures, and we are full of love for each other. Family has always been very important to us. One of the earliest conversations we had in our relationship was about both of our desires to have a family one day. After three years of marriage, we are ready to begin this next chapter of our life and share all the love we can give to a child. We hope to provide this child with a home filled with joy, support, and provide them with the freedom and opportunities to become the person they choose to be.
We hope that through the words and pictures in this book, you can get a glimpse into our lives. We are full of hope that our lives might intersect and the life of a beautiful child will forever be better for this journey we choose together.
We met in Boston, MA in 2013 while we were both working on our graduate degrees. On our first date at a sushi restaurant, we immediately connected over our passions for family, travel, food, and our shared hometown, Florida. As we got to know each other more, we discovered we shared a lot of similar values and life goals. We dated for two years and on our annual family trip, Jorge proposed in Florence, Italy - one of Pierce’s favorite cities. During our engagement, we bought our first house in Boston and adopted a beautiful Golden Retriever puppy named Cooper. We got married two years later in 2017 at an intimate wedding in Boston with our closest friends and family. In planning to start our family, we always knew we wanted to be closer to ours, so we decided to move back to Miami, Florida in 2018.
Our relationship has been defined by mutual support, open communication, lots of adventures, and love. Raising a child is the next stage in our story and we know it is going to be the most amazing experience of our lives.
I was born in New Jersey but was raised on the sunny Gulf Coast of Florida. I have the fondest memories of growing up with my brothers going to the beach, riding bikes, and enjoying the outdoors. Thanks to my parents, I learned the value of hard work and determination. From a young age, I knew I wanted a career where I would be able to give back to the community but still include my nerdy need for science. I became a pharmacist and I couldn’t be happier. It is one of my greatest pleasures to be able to make my patients feel cared for everyday. In my spare time, I enjoy having a passport and camera in hand. Traveling the world has taught me to enjoy the little things in life and how to appreciate our differences and similarities. I remember when I was a child, I always wanted to see the world. Now that I have that opportunity, I cannot wait to be able to create and share these experiences with my growing family.
What Jorge loves most...
From the moment I met Pierce, I knew he was someone special. His adventurous spirit and focus was something I admired right away. He is one of the hardest working people I know, and the passion he has for taking care of his patients is admirable. Pierce is very giving and you can tell by the number of friends he has. Every time we travel somewhere, he has a friend in that city. When it comes to our personalities, in some aspects we couldn’t be any more different, but we have similar core values and balance each other so well. He is truly my soul mate and I know he will be an amazing dad.
If I had to choose just one word to describe myself I would say “easy-going.” I’m a laid back, go-with-the-flow kind of guy, but I’m also very determined and passionate. I was born in Cuba and moved to Miami as a child. That experience shaped me to really value hard work and to follow my dreams. I’m a software developer, I design and create mobile applications...yeah, those apps people download from the AppStore, and I absolutely love it! In my free time, I enjoy being with friends, playing with our dog Cooper, or just relaxing at home watching Netflix. If you see me, I always tend to have a smile on my face and I love for others to laugh and have a good time when they are around me. I feel I have so much love to give and a child would be my greatest joy.
What Pierce loves most...
Jorge is my rock. He celebrates my triumphs and mourns my losses as though they were his own. He loves me unconditionally and without hesitation. On our wedding day, as we read our vows, I was excited to start our family and to one day see him become a father. He has the biggest heart and can always put a smile on anyone's face. I admire the relationship he has with his family, and I see how proud of him they are when I look in their eyes. His silly nature compliments my more reserved personality. Jorge is my best friend and there isn’t anyone in the world I would rather share the rest of my life with.
In my family, I go by “#3.” I am one of four boys and my mom addresses us by the number of the order we were born in. My family lives in the same community I grew up in and is only a few short hours away from where we live now. Despite living on the opposite coast of Florida, we see my family constantly either in person or on FaceTime. We are in communication every day sharing family updates especially about my nephew, Duke. It has brought us so much joy seeing Duke grow and witness those milestone moments of discovery. We have shared our adoption experience with my family, and they couldn’t be more excited for us to have our own “#1”.
We are a very close family; Pierce always jokes that when I tell him it’s just an intimate family gathering there are always thirty people there (grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins). Coming from a Hispanic family, it is instilled in us that family always comes first and my parents were sure to teach me and my sister that value. My family lives 20 minutes away from us so we see each other very often. My dad is always willing to lend a hand when it comes to projects around the house and my mom loves cooking Sunday lunch and having us over. Every year we go on a family trip and we have built so many amazing memories.
We have an active lifestyle and love to travel, but if quarantine has taught us anything, it’s that we also love to spend time at home. We enjoy opening our home to cook for and entertain family and friends. Spending time with the ones we love is a big priority for us. We are big foodies; when we are not trying new recipes at home, we are trying out new restaurants around the city. On the weekends we enjoy going out to the beach or hanging out by the pool and grilling. Living in Florida, we try to take advantage of the amazing weather year-round, and we love to ride our bikes, have a picnic at the park, or simply walk through the neighborhood.
When it comes to holidays, we are big into Christmas. We celebrate Christmas Eve with Jorge’s family and Christmas day with Pierce's family. Christmas morning the whole family wears matching pajamas to do the gift exchange. Additionally, as both of our birthdays are in July, we love to celebrate with a birthday trip. Some of our greatest traditions, however, involve the smallest things like Taco Tuesday and Sunday brunch.
We love to Travel
Together, we have traveled to 13 countries and visited over 50 cities since we’ve met. From the cold glaciers of Iceland, to the warm tropical waters of Bora Bora, we have been fortunate to have seen some of the most beautiful places on Earth. We are passionate about experiencing new cultures, and these experiences have had a huge impact on ourselves and the way we view the world. In our travels, we have learned to work with each other and enjoy each other’s company. One of our favorite things to do is taking selfies in all major landmarks everywhere we go. We have built so many wonderful memories and we hope to share new experiences and adventures with a child and create new memories for a lifetime.
Home Sweet Home
When we decided to move back home to Florida in 2018; the main reason was to be closer to family in order to start a family of our own. With this same thought in mind, we looked for a home and neighborhood that were ideal to raise a child. Our home is located in a quiet and very family-oriented neighborhood with great schools and public parks. Our home is a comfortable three bedroom and two bathroom mid-century modern with a large fenced-in backyard and a pool perfect for a kid to play around. In the design and decor, we really focus on having a space that meets the needs of our family. Within 30 minutes of our home, we have amazing beaches, museums, entertainment, and endless outdoor activities. We love that Miami offers such a rich and diverse culture and a thriving metropolitan area with opportunities to be exposed to new ideas and people. Most importantly, we love that we have an amazing network of family and friends near us.
Our promise to you is that this special child will be raised in a home full of love and laughter, will be given the freedom to become the person they choose to be, and will be surrounded with support from family and friends alike. We will raise a child to have a deep appreciation for you and the loving decision you made.
